COMMUNITY ACTORS COMING TOGETHER TO ADDRESS CLIMATE CHANGE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Climate change is disproportionally affecting the poor than the rich; those who depend mostly on natural resources are the ones the most affected. In the face of growing malnutrition and land degradation caused by global warming, ICMICA had to involve its members in different countries to come up with concrete interventions. Since 2022, the project on \u201ccommunity actors coming together to address climate change has reached around 290 families from Tanzania and Mali. The intervention focused on building the capacities of smallholder farmers (youth and households) to mitigate, adapt, and reduce the effect of climate change in their respective communities; tree planting, and introduction of clean water and new technology such as solar irrigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Environmental education<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    In order to mitigate the impacts of climate change on the lives of the rural poor, ICMICA conducted a series of trainings to help rural people to adapt to the new climate conditions, raise their awareness on the practices that are harmful to the environment. ICMICA also brought in the other aspects that are connected to environmental management such as gender, conflict resolution, trauma management.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Reforestation Activities<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Since 2022, through its projects, Pax Romana ICMICA Africa has been able to plant more than 10,000 trees in three countries: Burundi, Tanzania, and Mali. This is a contribution towards rebuilding the tree cover and increasing carbon sinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Use of new technology<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        The young people in KISA and Mpuguso Mbeya Tanzania decided to embark on group avocado farming for income generation. The parish gave them land to carry out their projects. To facilitate the irrigation of around 500 avocadoes, ICMICA equipped them with solar pumps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
